On Sept. 15, the Saint Vincent College (SVC) women’s tennis team captured their fifth win of the season by defeating Waynesburg with a score of 6-1. As of Sept. 17, the Bearcats’ record for the season is 5-1. Their only loss was against Allegheny College. The women’s team is currently 3-1 in the conference, and their next conference matchup will be against Franciscan University in Steubenville, Ohio on Sept. 23. The Bearcats will additionally play two non-conference opponents on Sept. 21 and Sept. 22, as they take on Penn State Brandywine and McDaniel College.

Senior Communication Media Studies Major, Marisa Hooper, believes that the team is doing well this season “I feel like we can make it pretty far this season, as We already won against W&J, a team we lost a close match to last year,” Hooper said.

On Sept. 14, the team managed to defeat Washington & Jefferson College with a score of 4-3 at their home court. Graduate student Isabella Lane, secured the game clinching point against the Presidents, as she would win the third set of number two doubles.

Despite being ranked 6th in the President Athletic Conference (PAC) preseason polls, Hooper believes that the team could make it far in the conference playoffs. “We currently only have one loss on the season so far, and I feel like we can make it pretty for in playoffs,” Hooper said. “We do play really tough competition, but as a team we are determined to keep working hard.” The top six teams out of nine make it to the conference playoffs, and last year the Bearcats finished sixth in the conference and would get eliminated by third seeded Franciscan with a score of 5-1.

The Bearcats made the PAC Sept. 17, they are currently 4th in the conference. The last time the tennis team won the PAC championship was in 2012  when they were crowned co-champions with Westminster College. The Bearcats only have four conference matches left, as their last PAC game will be against Westminster College on Oct. 8, and their last match of the season will be against Carlow University on Oct. 13.
