Looking for something fun to do on campus while also making healthy choices? VALT has you covered!

Vinny’s Alternative Leadership Team (VALT) is a student-run organization dedicated to making Saint Vincent College (SVC) a safer and healthier campus. The group aims to promote a more inclusive campus by sponsoring fun events throughout the semesters. To date, they have already held a Mardi Gras and Super Bowl party and even given out free chicken nuggets as a part of “Nugs not Drugs.”  They have also held a series of educational events, such as a Kahoot night on drug and alcohol safety and an informational presentation on Narcan.

Meghan Albertelli, director of the SVC Prevention Projects since 2021, created VALT as part of a series of initiatives aimed at sponsoring and hosting fun and educational events for students and providing resources for better understanding the risks that drugs and alcohol pose. VALT aims to show students that there are other ways to have fun without drinking and drug use.

“I hope that we are able to be that little reminder in the back of students’ brains when they are possibly in a tricky situation,” said Albertelli. “Our goal is not complete restriction, but realization. Most students don’t know the true effects of drugs or alcohol unless something bad happens to them or someone they know. I want to make sure that students have true and useful information to avoid these tricky situations.”

Albertelli, along with six students, makes up an executive board that discusses and plans events according to what the students of SVC want.

“They have all been part of the club since the Fall of 2021 when we truly started,” Albertelli said. “They are all part of the executive board and discuss and plan activities for all the students. They are also given the responsibility that if anyone needs help on campus, students can come to them to get resources and information.”
