Despite being such a small campus, Saint Vincent College (SVC) has certain aspects of campus life that are not well known, even amongst the student body. These aspects often provide vital resources and support for students and the wider SVC community. One of those aspects of campus is the Office of Multicultural Student Life.

The Office of Multicultural Student Life is an initiative that aims to support the school’s diverse student body. Its purpose is to promote cohesion and a sense of home for those that come from different regions, cultures, religions, and ethnicities. It is a safe space designed to make SVC everyone’s home and promote solidarity and inclusion. With such an important mission, the office is always looking to expand its influence on campus.

One of the steps taken towards this objective was the hire of Osyon Jones, C’24, as the new Graduate Assistant for the Office of Multicultural Student Life. Jones, who graduated Cum Laude, was an operational excellence graduate student with a degree in business management and a minor in information systems. Jones was also a Fred Rogers Scholar, SAAC, and OE club member. If that were not enough, he was also starting and having an impactful role in SVC Men’s Basketball team. Jones also enjoys art, music, and literature.

“I chose Saint Vincent, because of the university’s staff and tradition. I truly believe Saint Vincent has one of the most hospitable campuses in the country,” Jones said. While a strong academic and athletic institution, SVC caught Jones’ attention due to the school’s Benedictine tradition based on the hospitality hallmark. During his undergraduate and graduate years, the Multicultural Office interested him because he wants “to serve the Saint Vincent community, [by] providing guidance and mentorship to those who need it”.

Jones’s short-term goal is to “generate more traffic to the office, allowing me to meet and interact with more students”. His long-term goal is that the Office of Multicultural Student Life “cultivates leaders and successful students, while cultivating a home away from home for students who need [it]. I want this office to be a safe space for both fun and meaningful discussion”.

Students should be on the lookout for upcoming events and collaborations with the Activities Planning Board (APB) and the Office of Student Affairs, and an increased presence on social media. The Office of Multicultural Student Life is also looking to sponsor student trips in the future
